NJHS

How do I join NJHS?    Unfortunately 6th graders may not join NJHS. 7th and 8th graders (not already in NJHS) will be invited to join NJHS after the first semester grades have been posted in January. The next round of invitations don't happen until we come back from winter break and semester grades are posted. So, late January. Students who have an A average for their four core classes (ELA, history, math, science) at the semester qualify to join NJHS. Since it is a high school credit course, students in Algebra, who have an 82 or better, do qualify for NJHS because there is a 1.1 multiplier.  Announcements are made here at school, and an all call is sent out through the PRMS email and the PTSA weekly, so be on the lookout for those toward the end of January. The Induction Ceremony isn't until April.

Please do not sign up for Remind until applications have been processed, and your child has been officially accepted into NJHS.

New NJHS candidates (April 2024):

Please get signed up for remind. This is how I communicate with the group. I'll keep you posted on everything through Remind.  Please do NOT sign up for Remind if you have NOT been accepted into NJHS.

Students are expected to complete 9 service hours per nine weeks. It's assumed students can do at least one volunteer hour per week. During the summer, students are expected to complete only 10 hours. Most students do something with their church or animal shelters or food pantries. Of course, you may always do more than the bare minimum.

Voluteering: I know some students may not have transportation to offsite places to volunteer. That's why I full-heartedly support Love for our ELders. It is a nonprofit that sends letters to senior citizens. That information is below along with other on-line opportunities. You may continue to do things for your family and neighbors for service hours for the time being, but you should get out into the community a little bit. There are a couple of volunteer opportunities here at PRMS. I send out notices through Remind when opportunities arise. Please do not include items on your Service Hours sheet for which you were paid. These are volunteer service hours. If anyone has a volunteering/service suggestions, I'm all ears.

PARENTS: I highly suggest you preview the on-line opportunities to make sure it is a good fit for you and your family.  While I did my BEST to find middle school opportunities, some of these suggestions are geared toward high schoolers.
