In accordance with TAC §89.2(4), and reinforced in Comal ISD school board policy, every K-12 core content teacher in Comal ISD is expected to have 30 Hours of Foundational Gifted and Talented (G/T) training as well as an annual 6 Hour update of G/T training. Fine Arts teachers are not required to obtain G/T PD hours.
Administrators and counselors are also required to obtain a one-time 6 Hour G/T Administrator and Counselor training.
All G/T hours must be completed within the first semester.
K-12 core classes are one layer of G/T services for our students. This training will review nature and needs of G/T students, identification and assessment, creativity, and differentiation.
30 Hour (Days 1-5) Foundational G/T training is available in 2 ways:
Asychronous, self-paced KickUp 30 Hour Collection
Region 20 (search “G/T” and look for Day 1,2,3,4, and 5)
Coursework must be completed by end of first semester.
If coursework is completed through Region 20, upload certificate in KickUp as an out-of-district event. This event will then be routed to your campus administration for approval before it appears on your transcript.
Already have your 30 hours? Please upload your certificate information to this Google Form.
If the 30 Hour Foundational GT training has previously been completed before beginning in Comal ISD, please upload documentation to tinyurl.com/gtpdverification
If certificate or records cannot be provided or found, then the 30 Hour coursework must be completed again. Please follow directions for first year core teachers to access coursework.
If 30 Hour training was previously completed, then a 6 hour GT annual update is required.
These 6 hours can come from a variety of sources: Comal U courses with GT credit, PreAP/AP Institutes, PBL training, Region 20 GT courses, or through the Asynchronous 6 Hour GT Update Training KickUp self-paced course.
If training is entered in KickUp and shows GT credit, no further action is needed. If you submitted 6 hours of GT PD via out-of-district event, it will appear on your transcript after your campus administration approves it.

You will also need to upload this training as an out-of-district event in KickUp.
Dates in the system will be added continuously throughout the year. New dates will be communicated in Admin Central periodically.
Already completed this training and need to provide evidence? Please upload documentation to tinyurl.com/gtpdverification.
