Professional Development
What Does Professional Development mean to you?
The idea of professional development can be overwhelming and rather daunting when trying to figure out how to fit it into your busy schedule.
It is important to remember that everything we do as graduate students- classes, assistantships, practicum, internship- IS professional development. When designing your professional development plan, remember that you are already doing so much, and tailor it to your needs, interests, and goals.
Your professional development plan can include anything that will help you develop as a professional. Attending conferences, readings, and trainings are only a small piece to that puzzle. Developing as a professional can also look like setting up coffee chats, working on finding work-life harmony, building network and mentorship relationships, working through trauma, reflecting on your experience to be able to communicate what you learned... anything that will promote your growth and create steps towards your goals.
