Facilities

Home Base

We are based at the Belle W. Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science (BICEFS), which is one of Clemson University's research and extension centers.  BICEFS is located on the 16,000 acre Hobcaw Barony near Georgetown, South Carolina.  The property features freshwater ecosystems on the river side, including abandoned historical rice fields and wetland baldcypress-tupelo forests, and salt marshes on the ocean side.  In between, the slightly upland sites feature a range of managed forest types, including traditional loblolly pine rotations and some very old longleaf pine stands that are managed with periodic fire.

Offices

Faculty offices are located in a LEED Gold certified building that was completed in 2010.  Lab space is recently renovated as well.  More details about facilities are located here.

Visiting

We are located 60 miles north of Charleston and 30 miles south of the Myrtle Beach International airport.  We have a 10-bed cottage on site for short term visitors and summer undergraduate interns.  Visitors can enjoy nearly 60 miles of sandy beaches that comprise the Grand Strand between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown.
