The IS-WiN Laboratory is located in the Fluor Daniel Engineering Innovation Building at Clemson University. Our indoor lab is a 1,200 sq. ft. facility with a high-ceiling flight arena for controlled UAV testing, hardware-in-the-loop work, and real-time perception experiments.
Our research combines aerial and ground robotics, wireless communications, and high-performance computing. We use a diverse array of resources and equipment to study autonomous systems in controlled indoor settings and realistic outdoor environments. Some of these include:
Robotics platforms: SkyRanger R70, DJI M30T, ModalAI drones, and Leo Rover ground robots
Sensing equipment: Visual, infrared, RGNIR, and hyperspectral cameras
Wireless testbeds: Wi-Fi mesh, LTE/4G and 5G, Ettus software-defined radios, and a 4G/5G O-RAN testbed for simulation, cabled, and over-the-air experiments
Computing and storage: On-site GPU workstations, DGX systems, and embedded computing, with access to Clemson’s Palmetto 2 HPC cluster and Indigo storage
Research infrastructure: Clemson’s Information Technology Center and geospatial facilities provide data center, GIS, mapping, and field data collection support
The IS-WiN lab also utilizes external locations for UAV testing. Our primary testing location is behind the National Brick Research Center in Anderson, South Carolina, at 100 Clemson Research Blvd, Anderson, SC 29625. This is a 10-acre field facility near Anderson, South Carolina, where drones, ground robots, and more than 50 programmable sensing and computing nodes can be used to perform experimentation.
