New to Google Classroom? Don't know where to start? Start here!
Enjoy this 4-minute video that gives you a brief introduction to Google Classroom.
Google Classroom is a class-organizational platform for students to use FREE of charge. It is a component of Google's G Suite (Google Docs, Slides, Drive, and other Google products. This is where your student will access almost everything that they will need for their classes this year, such as homework, reading materials, and course syllabus.
This is not a learning tool like Khan Academy or i-Ready; it is mainly for collaboration with their teacher and classmates and organizing their class assignments.
Usually, yes. While we are in the midst of our distance learning model of instruction here at Bridgeport Middle School, most teachers will use the Google Meet feature, which is a part of Google Classroom, to teach live to students.
Contact your child's individual teachers for more details.
Easy! Your child's teachers will be giving them their class codes to join their class. Your child will use this code at classroom.google.com to join the class. It is secure because only Bridgeport Middle School students with the class code for that teacher will be able to access the class content and interact with that teacher and the other students who are also members of that class.
Because students have 7 class periods plus homeroom, expect them to collect 8 different class codes to join all of their classes on Google Classroom.
Anywhere! The best part of Google Classroom is that your child will be able to access their classes on Google Classroom from anywhere that they have a device (computer, Chromebook, tablet, or phone) and an internet connection.
If you are using your phone, we encourage you to download the Google Classroom app.
Simply provide your child's teachers with your email address, and they will send you an invitation to the class. After you accept the invitation, you will be able to receive updates directly from them, which could include updates on missing work, upcoming assignments, and other important class information.

Not exactly. Although some assignments in Google Classroom will be graded, not all assignments will receive a grade within the class. To get a complete grade report for your child's classes, log in to Skyward.
Your child will receive an email to their school Gmail account (the one ending with @g.bsd75.org) from the teacher whenever he/she posts new announcements, material, or assignments to the classroom. However, Google Classroom does NOT alert you to assignment due dates, so it's very important that your child pay close attention as to when assignments are due. They can use their school planner or their Google class calendar to keep track of when assignments are due.
Google Classroom is a great tool for both teachers and students to use in the actual classroom or while learning from a distance. Our teachers at Bridgeport Middle School will most likely be using Google Classroom all school year long, no matter what our school year looks like.
If you have any other questions or concerns about Google Classroom, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
