BRAC University Chess Club (BUCHC)

Objectives

Promote the game CHESS among the students as well as the teachers of the university, as an educational tool. Promote CHESS as the game for brain skilling and mind development enlightening everyone about the importance of playing CHESS, bringing out the best CHESS players from all parts of the university. Creating a healthy and friendly atmosphere of playing CHESS. Involve the CHESS players to take participate in different CHESS competitions.

Brief History

In the beginning, there wasn’t any chess club at BRAC University. Chess was part of the BRACU Indoor Games Club. The thought of establishing a CHESS Club came in Residential Semester from a lecturer of BIL, MD. Shams Ud Duha. In Residential Semester 37, a new RS activity was introduced - CHESS Activity. Considering the extremely good participation and great passion about CHESS from the students, MD. Shams Ud Duha thought of establishing a CHESS Club in BRAC University. Through the immense support from our Honorable Director of BIL (BRAC Institute of Languages) Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed and Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb and as MD. Shams Ud Duha as our club Advisor, BRAC University CHESS Club started their journey on 21st May 2015 through a Grand Orientation Program with the attendance of the Director of BIL, Vice-Chancellor, Chief Arbiter of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Grand Master Niaz Murshed, Chairman and Faculties of different departments of BRAC University.
