Fort Zumwalt | Wentzville | St. Charles City-County Library
A One Read is when the school community participates in a shared experience by reading one book during the same period of time. Several St. Charles County schools are participating and will be connecting with one another and the larger community through the public library.
This will be the second year St. Charles county schools have participated in a One Read. Participating schools are from Fort Zumwalt, Francis Howell, and Wentzville school districts.
It is a way to connect with others around a quality literary selection through a shared reading experience.
Reading the same book sparks conversation around relevant topics and helps readers to make connections to real world events.
A One Read provides a bridge for multiple content areas to collaborate together to create meaningful learning opportunities.
The book selection for the 2021-2022 school year is Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham. This book is an engaging mystery that brings the Tulsa race riot of 1921 to light. Alternating chapters between Rowan, a teen living in current-day Tulsa, and William, a teen living in Tulsa during 1921, tell a story of characters grappling with their own self-discovery and race relations during their respective time periods.
Dreamland Burning was a 2019-2020 Missouri Gateway Nominee and has received starred reviews from Kirkus and Booklist.
May 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre.
