FX6 Vision Statement
At Felixstowe School Sixth Form, all learners, regardless of their starting point will be successful and leave ready for their next steps, whether that is an apprenticeship, employment or further education. We know that the most successful students are those that feel happy and supported which allows them to develop an interest in and passion for their subjects.
Our vision for you when you join our Sixth Form is that after two years with us you will not only have the fantastic academic qualifications to access some of the best universities and careers in the world but that you feel happy and confident to make the most of your time at university and be in control of your future career. This will start with the rigorous selection process for Sixth form where learners will be supported to make appropriate choices about the courses they wish to study. This will be based on future plans, current progress and learning habits. The sixth form will play an integral role in shaping the learning habits in KS4, so that learners are 'Sixth Form' ready.
While academic excellence and fantastic teaching and learning is central to our Sixth Form, we know that to achieve our vision we need to provide much more than this. We achieve this through:
· Excellent teaching provided by committed and outstanding teachers. Teaching and learning will be driven by the underlying principle that every learner, regardless of their starting point can make progress and be successful. Outside of lesson your time is structured so that you are in an environment where you can study independently to be successful.
· Lessons that inspire you to learn more outside of the classroom. This is supported by subject visits and Sixth Form experiences that encourage you to go above and beyond the course syllabus. Outside speakers and independent study guidance all aim to make learning inspirational.
· A tutor programme focussed on learning, advice and support about careers and work-related skills & training. Learners will leave equipped with the soft skills necessary to enable them to take their next steps. They will be independent learners, resilient and adaptable to change. Every student will set targets that are regularly reviewed and a dedicated university and careers advisor meets with students at least once every half term.
· Leadership opportunities. Sixth Form students are role models for our younger students and the wider community. All sixth formers are involved in the School House system at some level with opportunities to regularly volunteer and lead in the school. Leadership is encouraged and rewarded through the FXS6 Award.
Learners will feel safe at Sixth Form and will enjoy attending due to the range of activities and support on offer. They will pay attention to their study habits and themselves as learners throughout their Sixth Form experience. They will be goal focussed and target driven, regularly 'nudged' by supportive and motivating staff.
