"Criminology is an impactful course and one I found very interesting. The subject covers a range of insights into crime and how it can be related to real-world issues. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying criminology and it is my favourite subject. The course has interdisciplinary approaches and the chance to develop skills within the 2 years. The way the course is structured with its exams ensures that interest is maintained by not overloading you at the end of the 2 years, but instead allowing you to focus solely on one unit to then show off all your knowledge before starting another exciting unit. Criminology is an enriching and practical choice for your studies." - Eve (current year 13 student)
"Criminology is an interesting subject, as it looks at all of the inner workings of the criminal mind. As well as this, you gain understanding of what makes a crime, and why these differ in different cultures, which widens your further understanding of society. This is good, as the information that's learnt can easily be applied to the real world, to help understand how the criminal mind, and other roles in crime operate". Ben Fawkes (6th Form Alumni) Nottingham Trent University
"Criminology is an interesting subject to take as it allows you to learn more about what goes on in a criminals' mind to lead them to committing the crime, as well as the impact it has on victims and society. Looking at so many different types of crimes puts into perspective the amount of things we do daily that are in fact illegal such as downloading music or using social media whilst underage." Katie Combe (6th Form Alumni) University of Essex
"Criminology is a great subject to take for A Level because you learn about various crimes, understanding the mindsets of criminals and why they commit them which is incredibly interesting. It's also beneficial to study in order to open lots of doors with many career paths including: policing, criminal justice system etc." Charlotte Taylor (6th Form Alumni) University of Essex
Within the criminology course every effort is made to give students the opportunity to experience criminology within the real world. In the past we have had guest speakers including former Detective Inspectors in to the school as well as students attending a Criminology conference in London and hearing from Criminologist Professor David Wilson and University lecturers, the Police and former prisoner Noel ‘Razor’ Smith. Students have also previously been able to attend court and a prison.
