This is a broad-based course of study, developed through a range of 2D, 3D and time-based processes and media.

Incorporates three major elements: supporting studies, practical work, and a personal study. Supporting studies and practical work will comprise a portfolio of development work and outcomes based on themes and ideas developed from personal starting points.

The personal study will be evidenced through critical written communication showing contextual research and understanding in a minimum 1000 words of continuous prose, which may contain integrated images. Work must cover all four Assessment Objectives.

Preparatory studies will comprise of a portfolio of practical and written development work based on the Externally Set Assignment. During the 15 hour period of sustained focus, students will produce final outcome(s) extending from their preparatory studies in response to the Externally Set Assignment, under examination conditions.

Q: Do I have more freedom to choose what I do?
A: Yes - A Level Art is more independent and driven by the interests of the students.
Q: Is the essay component difficult and do I have support with this?
A: Yes, we have designed a scheme of learning to support you with developing your essay.
Q: What kind of techniques will I get to explore?
A: We try to shape this to the interests of the students. To name a few, felting, clay, printmaking, mixed media, drawing mediums.
Q: What does the exam look like?
A: The exam is 15 hours and during this time you will produce an outcome, that is the product of the exam project. You will develop your ideas over several weeks.
