Yellow and Blue Kids Cartoon Superhero YouTube Video Intro with Sound Effect.mp4Welcome to the League of Parker Superheroes
Welcome to the League of Parker Superheroes
Back in 1901, two real-life heroes created the League of Parker Superheroes: Colonel Francis W. Parker and Flora Cooke! Colonel Parker founded our incredible school, and Ms. Cooke led the way as our very first principal from 1901 all the way to 1934.
First graders have been exploring the powerful legacy of our founders. Together, Parker and Cooke passed down these amazing superpowers to generations of Parker students:
Doing the Right Thing
Doing the Right Thing
Be Kind and Good: Always choose to do what is right, even when it is hard.
Be Real and Honest: Who you are on the inside is your biggest super-power.
Everyone Matters: Every single person is special and deserves love and respect.
Thinking and Learning
Thinking and Learning
Love to Learn: Knowing new things helps you solve problems and make smart choices.
Use Your Imagination: Think of fun, new ways to turn tricky moments into great ones.
Work Hard in School: Learning and practicing helps you grow smarter every day.
Helping Others
Helping Others
Be a Good Neighbor: Help make your town a happy place to live.
Help Your Community: Share, care, and lend a hand to the people around you.
Stand Up for Friends: Be brave and protect anyone who needs help or feels unsafe.

Research
Research
Before our first graders could officially join the League of Parker Superheroes, they had to report to Superhero Training School!
Every super journey begins with research. Our young heroes dove into books about iconic legends, including Superman and Wonder Woman. As they read, students took detailed notes—capturing secret identities, powers, and how these heroes used their gifts to serve their communities. Combining words and pictures, they gathered their findings and compiled all their superhero data onto our main board to share with the rest of the league!
Designing Their Superhero Identity
Designing Their Superhero Identity
With their research complete, our first graders were ready for the ultimate mission: creating their own superhero identities! Drawing inspiration from Black Panther, Colonel Parker, and Flora Cooke, each student designed a brand-new hero name, mapped out special abilities, and planned how they would protect and lift up our Parker and Chicago communities.
No hero is complete without an iconic emblem! After studying how famous logos like Spider-Man’s and the Incredible Hulk’s tell a hero’s story, the first graders took to the digital realm. Using Cricut design software, they crafted custom logos, which were uploaded, precision-cut from vinyl by the ILIS Department, and ironed directly onto their superhero capes!
First Grader Superheroes in Action
First Grader Superheroes in Action
With superhero identities set and custom capes fully equipped, it was time for the ultimate reveal: seeing our heroes save the day! Thanks to green-screen magic, first graders showed off their superpowers in epic action shots. Students searched for the perfect backdrop to highlight their heroic deeds, then used the DoInk app to teleport themselves straight into the action!
For the grand finale, our mini-creators added movement to their scenes using the DoInk animation app. By programming objects to swoop, fly, and zoom across the screen, first graders turned their green-screen photos into fully animated superhero moments!
