Eighth Grade U.S. History

Students will study the various influences that have formed our country, including the original 13 colonies, the American Revolution, the Constitution, Manifest Destiny and the Civil War.
We will study:
Geography (land)
Society (people)
Economy (money)
History
Government
Expectations:
Give your best scholarly effort each day
Have a positive mental attitude
Have a willingness to learn and better yourself
Ask and answer questions
To use your precious time wisely
NEVER give up!
Classroom Rules:
Follow directions the first time they are given.
Use appropriate language: no put downs, cursing or other in appropriate words.
Respect each other’s personal space by keeping your hand, feet and other objects to yourself.
Raise your hand for permission to speak (unless in groups) or to leave your seat.
Be respectful of other’s thoughts by silently listening when others are talking.

Grading:
Grades will be earned based upon;
Binder / flashcards / foldable (10%)
Participation (20%)
Daily work (50%)
Tests / quizzes (20%)
Re-do and/or re-takes
You have seven (7) days to re-do or re-take any assignment or test due to a poor score
Before or after school tutoring is available to assist you in mastering the material
Assignments are due on the assigned date
Any late assignment will lose 10% of its value up to a maximum 10 points
It is better to turn in a fully completed assignment late than to turn in a partially completed assignment on time (90% is better than 40%!)
Extra credit may be offered periodically during the grading cycle to the entire class
Attendance:
Tardy
Please be on time to class
If you are late, please place your pass/tardy slip on my desk and silently move to your desk with as little distraction as possible
Absent
Assignments and handouts will be posted in our Google Classroom
You will have the same amount of time to make up the work as you were out
For example: You miss 1 day, you get 1 day. 5 days missed = 5 extra days to complete the missed work
Bathroom/Water Policy:
The student will give the bathroom signal (fingers crossed) and the teacher may give a nod
The student is responsible for gathering any missed data
The student will take the hall pass and go to the restroom/water fountain and return quickly
Tutoring/Make up:
Tuesday and Wednesday before school 8:15am – 9amm
I am VERY EXCITIED to be your U.S. History teacher this year! Working together, we will learn and accomplish many great things this school year so you will be more than prepared to move onto high school, college, trade school and ultimately your career.
