The Invisible Group in China:
Influence of Political Party, Traditional ideology, and media portrayal on Chinese Sexual Minorities
While the United States and European countries are considered rather mature in terms of feminism and sexual minority rights, Asia as a whole, and especially China, seems reluctant about the LGBTQ+ rights, unwilling to openly discuss it as well as avoid answering such questions when asked. For my GSD project, I intend to produce a social report that focuses on the current social status of the LGBTQ+ community in China, the historical development of it, as well as the status in the political aspect, focusing on China mainland’s response to Taiwan’s same-sex marriage legalization in 2019.
