For this GSD project, I did an analytical research paper on the underrepresentation of women in the sports industry and the lack of women in leadership roles in sports. This year of global education gave me a broader perspective that allowed my paper to be more educational and accurate Below is my thesis from my paper to give an overview of the research and analysis I did.Â
The underrepresentation of female leadership and women in managerial positions in the sports industry is a multifaceted issue influenced by various factors including systemic gender biases, limited opportunities for advancement, and cultural stereotypes. Through self-limiting factors, over-sexualization, and lack of education, women face many obstacles that diminish their presence in leadership roles in sports. Identifying and itemizing the barriers facing women pursuing a career in sports while looking for solutions to the greater issues of gender bias and inequality that women face on a global level is the next step forward. These barriers and factors impact women by inhabiting their access to this male-dominated space. They are marginalized in their pursuit of managerial roles. For women to successfully break into the sports industry, they must come together to face the larger issues of gender discrimination and lack of representation that have come from years of a global patriarchal society. Strategies such as eliminating gender bias by making the sports industry an inclusive space for all women and minorities are the future of females in sports.
