Colonel Bauman’s educated opinion and perspective of the complex conflict gave a well-structured insight into the hundreds of years-long issue. What made him so credible and believable was that he gave opinions and facts from both sides of the argument. He highlighted his stance against violence and not condemning any civilian attacks. He offered a pro-Israeli perspective that laid out the history of the Jewish people and their search for refuge and safety. He showed the timeline of the land and how it became more and more favored by the Israeli people as time went on. He then talked about the pro-Palestinian perspective, he talked about how the land was divided and how the Palestinian land was depleted more and more over time until it was just parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Bauman talked about the Oslo Accords of 1993 and the impact that had on Palestine. He spent the majority of the lecture talking about how history got to the October 7th Hamas attack. His main takeaway was that this issue has been going on for thousands of years and won’t just end in a day, it is going to take time and compromise to reach agreed terms. He believes peace and laying out a plan is the next best step forward.
Although this topic isn’t directly associated with my GSD project topic, the way he laid out the past, present, and future on this topic is a technique I can use for my project. Bauman did an excellent job of giving the historical context of this event that was relevant and easy to follow. I will try to mimic this strategy as I lay out the past, the present, and the future of women working in the sports industry. Overall this was a great and educating lecture on a very present topic in today's news.
