Welcome!
What is Destiny Discover?
Destiny Discover is the online catalog that lists all of our print as well as digital content. You will find e-books, resources, our library books all listed here. This catalog allows you to search for a book by author, genre, title etc. You can also see the books displayed in different categories such as, Newly added titles, E-books, Popular titles etc. All to help you make your selection. The catalog allows you to place holds, your favorite titles, build a collection list, leave a review and also suggests titles similar to the one you viewed.
How to login, place a hold, check my information, due dates, write a review and other Destiny questions?
For most communication from me, please check your emails to see if your holds are ready, if have overdue notices and most library related communication. You can also check this under your account in the online catalog, Destiny Discover. Please click on the Destiny Tutorials tab. I have put up video tutorials that will walk you through many of the basic functions found on Destiny. If you have more questions, just send it in the Feedback Form found under "Home" tab. I will get back to you, or just walk in and ask me if we can't figure out the answer we will learn together.
When are you open?
I open at 7:50 a.m. to the students though I am here earlier. So you can walk in from the time you are allowed on campus.
I am open through lunch. You have to get a pass from a supervisor at the gate to come into the library at lunch. Currently we allow 60 kids in at a time. I ask you to use your pass wisely and come into the library to do reading, homework, checking out books or using the computers for school work. We also have chess for you to play! Be a proactive good citizen and consider returning your pass early if your work is done, so others can come in. Remember best behavior is expected and not following school and library rules will result in consequences.
I am open after school till 3:30 on Mon, Tue and Thursdays except Wednesday I am here only till 2:30. After school the Homework club, Book Club and Rubiks Club use the library too for their activities. You are welcome to come and use the library as long as you follow the library expectations.
For changes in the schedule check the announcements at "Home" page or Schedule page. I usually send emails using Infinite Campus for any changes or announcements. Check your emails!!
How long can I borrow a book?
Graphic Novels - 1 week
All other books up to 3 weeks.
How can I renew?
Please get the book back to me, so I can see that it is still in a good condition and you have it physically ( meaning your dog didn't eat it!!) I will renew it for you. Only exception is if someone has placed a hold on the book then the book can't be renewed.
Where can I return the book?
I place the return bin, a big wooden box with a mail slot and signs on it saying "return books here" always outside the library entrance. This is to help you drop books in as you are walking to your classes. The return bin is always out before you get on campus, and stays out till I go home. You can always come in and give your returns to me too in person.
How can I suggest a book?
You are always welcome to suggest books, after all this library should reflect your needs and interests. I just need to make sure that the book you suggested is age appropriate and in the approved list of books before I can add it to the library.
How can I donate?
Bless your generous heart! You would think that the library only needs books, but no!! we need Kleenex tissues, baby wipes, office supplies, labels, stickers, display stands and even seasonal decorations. I am in the process of putting together an Amazon Wishlist which would include book wish lists and other miscellaneous stuff that will probably make it easier to donate. I want to make sure I add exactly what we need so we don't waste your precious contribution.
What if I lose a book?
Well it goes without saying "Don't lose your Book!!!" try to be as careful and as responsible with it as you would be with your cellphone. But if it does happen that you lost your book the district stipulates a fine of $25 for hard books and $15 dollars for paper backs. The fine may seem steep but it is because they account for the special backings, barcodes and processing a library book has to undergo to be in the system.
Usually the system setting is such that if the book is considered overdue for more than 30 days then it is marked as lost.
I will consider you buying a replacement from another outlet which may sell the book for a lower price. The replacement has to be in a very good condition with no markings and should be of the same format as the original book. So if you lost a hard bound book the replacement should be a hard bound book. If you are habitually losing your books or your books are constantly damaged I will follow the district policy and you will have to pay the fine. So it is important you come and talk to me, if you can't find your book, or your book got damaged.
What if my book is overdue?
You will receive an email reminder from me saying books are overdue. So check your emails. I send overdue reminders daily, if I don't get the books back by 3 weeks, or if the books are not renewed I am going to assume the books are lost and you will be charged the standard fine. Please check your due dates using your Destiny account. If you are not sure on how to do that check the Destiny tutorials where I teach you how to check your information.
What about damaged books?
Again, please be super careful with your books. If it is something I can repair I will try my best. If the book is completely ripped, or has water damage, mold or food spilt on it I have to ask you to replace the book. District fees is $25 for hard pack and $15 for paper packs. Please come and talk to me if you want to buy the replacement book.
How do I pay Fines?
The preferred way is to use My school Bucks to pay the replacement cost online. Here is the detailed link on how to do that. once you pay online the office will inform me that the fine has been paid. If you prefer to pay by cash or check you have to come to me in person or pay at the office. Make sure you collect a receipt from me to remove the fine from your account. Please bring the exact amount,if paying in cash we do not carry change.
How can I volunteer?
Our library needs help in getting clean, organized, labelled and decorated. The good news is both parents and students can volunteer. Please email me at svaradan@fusdk12.net
Please note: The fines are non refundable if you find your book 30 days after paying the fine. Click the linked page below to pay your fines using school bucks.
