I've been in the Education field for over 10 years! I began volunteering with kids when I was a senior in high school and never stopped working with kids ever since. I'm originally from Southern California, Fullerton and moved to the Bay about three years ago. I've taught in Fullerton, Oakland, and now currently teach in Fremont. I love teaching and love being able to teach kids to love learning just as much as I do. I am a learner for life. I earned my BA, English Credential, and MA in Education at Cal State Fullerton. I also have my TESOL certification from UCLA. As Nelson Mandela says, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Finally, I have a Twitter account where I share more in hopes to connect with other educators.
Here is a photo of my students reading a novel that they all hand-picked and received through a DonorsChoose donation. I encourage reading of all kinds! Novels, graphic novels, comics, mangas, magazines, newspapers, and non-fiction.
Here's a photo of my 8th grade class on the last day of school. We had an end of the year ceremony in my class and students received a handwritten letter from me. I love seeing my students grow academically, emotionally, and physically!
Here's a photo of my mother. She's an educator of 30+ years. As a single-parent and immigrant, my mom always encouraged me to pursue education. She said education was the pathway to success... and I wholeheartedly agree. I followed her footsteps and became an educator myself. She's currently a high school foreign language teacher at a school in Orange County.
As a Korean-American, I am proud to say that I am fluent in both Korean and English. My mom always emphasized the importance of keeping my culture and language as I grew up. I had a handful of students who wanted to start a Korean Club. We raised over thousands of dollars in our club and went on outings to Korean BBQ, activities/hangouts, and festivals in SF. I'm so glad I was able to share my language and culture to my students. (2022-2023)
I also taught Yearbook at my previous school. This was my first year as an advisor and also my first high school class. I taught a Yearbook class for 9th-12th grade and this was the school's first yearbook since the start of Covid-19. This was also the school's first student-made yearbook, so we were very proud of our end result! We sold out and it was an absolute hit. (2022-2023)
