By 6th grade, most students know what all of these look like and sound like. These expectations are discussed at length at the beginning of the year and examples and activities are provided to help students get a better understanding of what each of these rules truly means.
Brookvale/FUSD Policy on Assigning and Time Spent on Homework
The Guidelines below are for weekly assignments of homework given at Brookvale. Homework will not be assigned on Fridays, during breaks and vacations. It is Brookvale’s intent is to reserve weekends and vacations for family time. The total numbers of minutes stated below include all subjects and classes. Studying for exams and independent reading is included in the required nightly minutes for homework. Students with excused absences are allotted the same number of days of the absence to complete work.
**6th grade homework will be approximately 0-60 minutes per evening.
If it seems your child is struggling with their homework and they exceed the allotted time for homework please allow them to stop. Just send a note with their homework explaining their struggles and we’ll get it figured out!
*Some exceptions to the "no homework on weekends or holidays" policy may include long-term projects when students may use weekend or holiday time to make progress if given adequate time in class.*
