Our goal is to have every student feel safe and welcome at Horner. With this goal also comes some dress code expectations for students. While summer time brings out crop tops (rightfully so due to the hot weather) we want to remind all families and students that all clothing needs to be in line with the schools dress code. As parents wind down the shopping for school, we wanted to remind everyone that some things are considered not appropriate for school. We want students to be able to attend school successfully without having dress code violations in which they would need to change into other clothing that we issue to them when a violation occurs. Thank you in advance for reviewing the dress code with students to ensure safety and adherance to the school rules.
DRESS CODE – P.E - Students are required to wear their own Horner PE uniforms with names printed (1” BLOCK letters”) on each piece. Uniforms can be purchased during PE class from your locker room PE teacher. Parents may purchase a gray T-shirt and “Horner blue” athletic shorts. Sweatpants can be black, white or light gray (and labeled with their name). PE uniforms and sweats are to be worn only in PE and not during the day in other classes or at lunch without prior permission from the administration. Athletic shoes are to be worn. No Crocs, boots, or sandals. Students are required to dress in PE uniforms for PE class everyday. Consequences for “non-dress” and “loaners” are as follows:
LOANERS AND NON DRESS POLICY IN PE: (resets each semester)
LOANERS: For students who forgot their PE clothes, we do have clean loaners that can be checked out and used for the day. However, too many loaners will result in detention. For every third loaner the student checks out, a one-hour detention will be assigned. [Example: 1 st loaner (warning), 2nd loaner (warning), 3rd loaner (1-hour detention), 4th Loaner (warning), 5th loaner (warning), 6th loaner (1-hour detention), etc.]
NON-DRESS: For students who are NOT appropriately dressed (wearing Croc-like shoes or combat boots, have school clothing under their PE uniform, no PE or loaner uniform, etc.) will be held accountable. The first non-dress will result in a warning. Each additional non-dress will result in a one-hour detention.
DRESS GUIDELINES - SCHOOL WIDE: Students are required to wear clothes that are appropriate for school ( CA Education Code 35183.
