Scholarly Articles

Scholarly Articles/Source (AKA Scientific Article): are articles that are written by experts in academic or professional fields.  The article is likely published in academic journals or academic magazines.  Upon publishing, many articles undergo peer review, which means that a group of other experts in the field have reviewed the article.

** All Peer-Reviewed articles are Scholarly Articles, but not all  Scholarly Articles are Peer Reviewed!

How do you know if an article is a scholarly article?

Example of a General Pop Article (Pop articles are never peer reviewed)
Example of a Scholarly Source (not peer reviewed, not a scientific paper)
Example of a Scholarly Article (is peer reviewed)
*Hint: the easiest way to retrieve peer reviewed scholarly articles, is to set a filter in the
databases.  It is not obvious when a scholarly article is peer reviewed or not.
