Core support Room #8
Class overview:
Welcome! In this class, my goal is to support students in understanding their IEP goals and the accommodations that are in place to help them succeed. We’ll work together to make sure each student knows what supports are available to them and how to use them effectively in all of their classes.
Throughout the year, we’ll focus on building strong organization skills, study habits, and learning strategies that students can apply across all subject areas. Whether it’s managing assignments, preparing for tests, or breaking down difficult concepts, this class is here to help students feel more confident, capable, and in control of their learning.
My priority is to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and grow both academically and personally.
How to Succeed in This Class:
This class is all about helping students grow. Here are the key things that help students succeed:
Come to class regularly
Follow class and school rules
Be productive
Try their best and don’t give up
Expectation:
In this class, students are expected to come prepared, be on time, and stay engaged in their learning. During class, you should be working on something academic, whether it’s organizing your materials, practicing study skills, or getting support with assignments. You’re expected to use your accommodations, ask for help when needed, follow class and school rules, and always try your best. Effort, respect, and a positive attitude will help you succeed
Grading in this class is based on showing up, putting in effort, and staying productive during class time. Students are expected to stay engaged and use their class time wisely. The focus is on growth, not perfection.
About me
Hi everyone! My name is Mr. Steve, and I’m incredibly excited to begin my first year as a teacher here at Walters. This school is extra special to me because I actually went to Walters myself. As a former core support student, I know what it’s like to need a little extra help and I also know how it feels when you don’t always get the guidance and support you need to succeed.
That experience is a big part of what made me want to become a teacher. I want to be the kind of educator I wish I had someone who listens, supports, and helps students believe in themselves. My goal is to make sure every student in my class knows they have someone in their corner who cares about their success, both in school and beyond.
What I’m most excited about this year is building real connections with my students. I want to create a classroom where everyone feels comfortable being themselves, asking questions, and growing at their own pace. Starting out as a first-year teacher at the school I went to feels really special, and I’m excited to help my students do their best and succeed.
