2023 Swim Summary
Wow, what a great season 2023 turned out to be for our Aquatic Gophers!!!! Over the summer, the veterans and new swimmers partook in off-season workouts as well as a camp for the Town of Florence's club swim team. The coach, veterans, and new swimmers all had one common goal this season: to encourage and push one another to drop time for the state qualifiers in hopes of attending state. This goal was accomplished this season, especially with our boys' team. The boys dominated their meets this season. At each meet, the team dropped time in not only their relays but also their individual events. Many of our swimmers dropped between 2-to-10 seconds off their pre-season try-out times. The FHS team voted on three amazing captains this season, Royce Pine (spirit captain), Georgia Smith (girls captain), and Anders Hansen (boys captain). Each of these swimmers worked hard to assist the coach with meeting the team's goal of helping their fellow swimmers do their best this season! Two more swimmers took their last laps this season- Ty Thomas and BJ Zimba. These two swimmers have left their mark on FHS swim as influential leaders and enthusiastic sportsmen. To end the season, school records were shattered at the Southern AZ Regional State Qualifier by Ryder Hatch in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Ryder Hatch also competed in the Arizona AIA State Championship for the 200 and 500 freestyle. He earned 28th place for the 200F and 25th place for the 500F in the Division III competition.
