In high school, year-long classes carry one (1) credit hour. Semester classes carry 0.5 credit hours. Students must earn at least 23 credits to graduate.
Students may be recommended for the following 8th grade high school credit classes.
French/Latin/Spanish- When students pass two semesters of 7th grade World Language and two semesters of 8th grade World Language, they are awarded high school credit for French 1, Latin 1, or Spanish 1. Their 8th grade semester averages will appear on their high school transcripts. Usually, these students continue into French 2, Latin 2, or Spanish 2, all of which are offered at the on-level or honors-level, for 9th grade. If you have questions, please contact your child's World Language teacher.
Language Arts- Students who are accelerated in Language Arts may be taking a high school Literature and Composition class in 8th grade. A course example is 10th Grade Literature and Composition (on-level or honors). Their 8th grade semester averages will appear on their high school transcripts. If you have questions, please contact your child's Language Arts teacher.
Math- Students who are accelerated in math may be taking a high school math class in 8th grade. Course examples are GSE Algebra 1, Accelerated GSE Algebra 1/Geometry A Honors, and Accelerated GSE Geometry B/Algebra 2 Honors. Their 8th grade semester averages will appear on their high school transcripts. If you have questions, please contact your child's math teacher.
Science- Physical Science is a 10th grade course offered to advanced 8th graders. It is very similar to the 8th grade Science of the Physical World course, with approximately two extra units of study. Both first and second semester averages will appear on students' high school transcripts. If you have questions, please contact your child's Science teacher.
Introduction to Art- Students accepted into this semester connections class will earn 1/2 credit for high school. The course final average will appear on the students' high school transcripts. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. McCann, AMMS Art Teacher, at mccannj@fultonschools.org.
Introduction to Digital Technology- Students accepted into this year-long connections class will earn one elective credit for high school. The course's first and second semester averages will appear on the students' high school transcripts.
