Presenters: CiTi BOCES and our friends at the museum in Michigan

Audience: All ages

Join us for an interactive virtual field trip where we will connect with a museum educator in Michigan, and explore the three states of matter by making two types of slime! Behave like molecules in solids, liquids, and gasses, and make observations to discover why slime is special!

Living With Teen Dating Violence - In Their Shoes

An interactive, scenario-based re-enactment of the difficult choices teens face when they experience dating violence and how you/parents can support them.

Homework without Tears

Audience: Adults

Do you have a nightly battle with your child over homework? Parents, you play an important role in your child’s school success. Developing good homework skills will help your child throughout his/her school career. Beginning early will save you from future home conflicts. The class includes: learning habits, how to structure the School-Smart-Home, encouraging and discouraging behavior, attitudes and beliefs that build success and coaching your child. Join in for some rich discussion and support.

Mindfulness for All Ages

Mindfulness can be thought of as mental education where we strengthen the muscle of mindfulness through practice. The benefits are increasingly documented in support of learning and overall well-being. Together we will practice this focus through our senses and using our breathe as our anchor.

Board of Education Roundtable Discussion

What Do We Need to Know about Vaping?

Audience: Adults and Teens

An informative and educational presentation about vaping and e-cigarettes. We will learn the dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes, along with warning signs of use. You will also learn how we can help your teen overcome problems with vaping and how parents can be involved in the process!

The modern world has lost its stories. Come and see how using the time honored oral history of wisdom stories can help our children find their voice and develop self-control, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and the ability to make ethical decisions. Sharing each other’s stories is one simple way to allow children to find their own voice- to share feelings with their parents and siblings, and teachers, and even find positive ways to discuss critical issues in their lives. It also makes them and us better listeners, in class at home, while gaining an understanding of the different cultures of the world around us which will make them better global citizens and more sought after employees.

Moving Forward: First Steps to Understanding Human Trafficking

Presented by: The Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County

Audience: All ages

This session will include activities, videos, and discussion of risk factors that can leave people open to human trafficking. We will also review some case studies, what human trafficking looks like in our community, what to look out for, and what to do if you think trafficking is happening. This session will be appropriate for all ages, and families are encouraged to attend together.

Food Bank of CNY staff will be discussing the SNAP Outreach Program. They can assist families in determining if they are eligible for the SNAP program as well as assist with the application process. Information on the Food $en$e program and how to access it will be provided.

Understanding the Individualized Education Program (IEP)

Location:

Presented by: SUPAC

Audience: Adults

The IEP is the cornerstone of the special education process. “Understanding the IEP” walks families through the New York State standard IEP form and helps them to understand the various components of the IEP, how it impacts their child’s education program, who writes the IEP, and what individualized means. “Understanding the IEP” will also provide families with tips and tools to participate in the IEP development process to help promote positive education outcomes.
