40 Weeks
1.0 Credit Grades 9-12
Students will complete several design tasks and projects using wood as their material. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to shop safety, wood shop equipment use, wood joinery techniques, CNC router design and build projects and laser cutting. Project-based learning allows many students the opportunity to escape the traditional classroom atmosphere and work in a lab setting on hands-on projects and tasks.
Quarter 1
I can identify Personal Protection Equipment
I can read proficiently down to ⅙” of an inch
I can identify safety components of shop equipment
I can operate proficiently shop equipment
I can calculate board feet according to material needed in woodworking projects
I can demonstrate how to use a dowel fastener in a woodworking project
Quarter 2
I can demonstrate how to use a dowel fastener in a woodworking project
I can demonstrate how to use a biscuit jointer and apply in a woodworking project
I can design and create a working model of a tradition wood toy
Quarter 3
I can demonstrate various finishing techniques
I can identify wood species and common characteristic
I can design and create a woodworking project using V Carve
Quarter 4
I can design and create a woodworking project using laser engraving
I can create woodworking applications using Adobe Illustrator
I can demonstrate working in a group setting to create a wood manufacturing project
