General Music 7
General Music 7 focuses on music literacy, appreciation and music citizenship. We will use music from a variety of genres and time periods, and students will have the opportunity to connect music to other disciplines and reflect on music’s importance in society and in their own lives. Students will also have the opportunity to practice music literacy skills on guitar, keyboard and classroom percussion instruments.

I can identify, read and play notes in the treble clef
I can identify, read and play notes in the bass clef.
I can identify, read and play whole notes, half notes, quarter notes and eighth notes.
I can identify and read whole rests, half rests, quarter rests and eighth rest.
I can play a simple tune on the keyboard using both hands.
I can play 4 chords on the guitar, alone and in sequence.
I can read a guitar chord chart.
I can express my opinion respectfully and using appropriate music vocabulary.
I can articulate the concepts of tempo, dynamics, pitch, melody, harmony, rhythm and beat.
I can discuss the role music plays in history and culture.
I can discuss at least 5 influential musicians, spanning different historical periods.
