Science Fiction is a study of technology and its impact (and sometimes consequences) on society. Students will read, analyze and discuss works by authors including Suzanne Collins, Ray Bradbury, Lois Lowry, George Lucas, Aldous Huxley, Charlie Booker and the Wachowskis to help develop their comprehension and analytical skills. Excerpts and highlights from classic and modern SciFi texts will be covered, in addition to Star Wars, The Matrix, and other film studies related to the genre.
Fall and Spring Semesters (20 Week Course)
Understand the purpose of science fiction literature in modern society.
Develop a sense of irony in science fiction as a reflection of themselves.
Strengthen their ability to interpret complex science fiction texts and ideas.
Enhance their writing capabilities both creatively and analytically.
