Join us in this virtual symposium to understand, promote, and address issues surrounding emotional well-being in public health and the impact on quality of life and general health status. This symposium will bring together experts from Southern California to share their perspectives surrounding the subject matter. This event is free and open to the public, hosted by CSUF ESG. ESG is a student-run public health educational honorary organization.

Symposium Directors
Dr. Lohuwa Mamudu
Dr. Lohuwa Mamudu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University Fullerton (CSUF). He is a Statistician/Data Analyst/Data Scientist, Epidemiologist, and Research Consultant. His research is data-driven and interdisciplinarily focused on statistical/analytical modeling and applications of qualitative and quantitative statistical and machine learning methods and algorithms. He collaborates with the National Institute of Health (NIH) as a Freelance Data Analyst and researcher, working on cancer disease outcomes and disparities (breast, lung cancer, etc.), infectious disease, and immigration health disparities (depression, anxiety, and psychological distress) in the United States.
Dr. Mamudu is also the Director of an Interdisciplinary Health Science Cancer Research Lab (IHSCL) in the Department of Public Health at CSUF. He is an Associate Editor of the Preventing Chronic Disease Journal of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He is also the current faculty advisor for the Eta Sigma Gamma Delta Rho Chapter here at CSUF.
Dr. Portia Jackson Preston
Dr. Portia Jackson Preston is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at California State University, Fullerton. She conducts research on multilevel approaches to self-care, and examines how stressors such as racism contribute to health inequity. She was a featured speaker at TEDxCrenshaw, where she gave a talk entitled "The Missing Ingredient in Self-Care". She works with organizations to prevent and manage burnout by fostering sustainable performance and resilience.
Dr. Jackson Preston earned her Doctorate of Public Health from UCLA, her Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and her Bachelors degree from Stanford University. Prior to her career in academia, she worked for Deloitte Consulting and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, consulted for Susan G. Komen Orange County, and founded Active Steps Coaching.
Dr. Pimbucha Rusmevichientong
Pimbucha Rusmevichientong, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University, Fullerton. Her focal research pursuits are centered around microeconomics, experimental and behavioral economics. Dr. Rusmevichientong employs economic principles alongside with quantitative research techniques to delve into diverse subjects. These range from investigating the effects of food labeling and advertising to the strategic implementation of tobacco policy interventions, all with the overarching goal of enhancing health outcomes.

Dr. Sora Park Tanjasiri
Sora Park Tanjasiri, DrPH, MPH, is Professor in the Department of Health, Society and Behavior in the Program in Public Health, and Associate Director of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement in the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California. Her research focuses on community health promotion to reduce cancer health disparities among diverse populations, particularly Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Her work applies community-based participatory research (CBPR) to tobacco prevention and cessation, cancer early detection, and survivorship, and she has served as PI or Co-PI on over two dozen extramurally funded cancer-related studies, including Principal Investigator of the four-year NIH P20 Cancer Health Equity Research Partnership and the two-year DHHS OMH Health Equity and Literacy in Orange County (HEAL OC). Her research has been published in such peer-reviewed journals as American Journal of Public Health, Journal of the American Medical Association, Health Education & Behavior, and Health Promotion Practice. Dr. Tanjasiri has serves or has served as advisor to numerous organizations, including the Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance, Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy and Leadership, Orange County Women’s Health Project, and the St. Joseph Health System Community Partnership Fund. She received her DrPH in Community Health Sciences and her MPH in Behavioral Science at the UCLA School of Public Health.
Dr. Heather Readhead
Heather Readhead, MD MPH is a family medicine, preventive medicine and public health physician. After completing her public health degree at UCLA and medical school at Penn State University, she completed her family medicine residency at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital and her preventive medicine residency with the California Dept of Public Health. She has worked for both state and local health departments for Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Communicable Disease, Occupational and Environmental Health. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, her work focused on outbreak prevention and management in workplaces, correctional facilities and homeless shelters. Post-pandemic, Dr. Readhead is focused on improving the real-time data exchange necessary to understand and address equity and outcomes for public health interventions.
Dr. Adam Readhead
Dr. Adam Readhead is an epidemiologist with 20 years experience in public health in both international and domestic settings. He has worked in a variety of areas including communicable and non-communicable disease epidemiology, large-scale clinical trials, and evaluation of national and local programs. Dr. Readhead received his PhD in epidemiology from UCLA and his master’s degree in epidemiology from Tulane University.

Ms. Amanda Wilson-Eck
Amanda Wilson-Eck has been with NAMI-OC since 2020. She began her work as a program coordinator for Transitional Aged Youth programs and has since become the Youth Programs Manager. Amanda has worked closely with Orange County Transitional Aged Youth students to help share their mental health stories and equip teens and youngs with coping skills and resources to support their own mental wellbeing.
