How?
Treatment for paraphilia is crucial for the disorder to decrease and there are several different treatments that humans can choose from in order to help their disorder. There is a biologically based connection between pain and pleasure. Endorphins are proteins released by the central nervous system in response to pain. They work in the same manner as opiates to suppress pain and generate sensations of pleasure (Emedicine, 2023).
Types of Treatments for Paraphilia
Therapy:
The help from psychotherapists has shown to have a therapeutic relationship with patients suffering from paraphilia disorders is crucial for the treatment to be successful. Usually paraphilia disorders are developed due to past trauma such as childhood abuse or the need of accidental conditioning (Balon, 2013). An understanding between the feelings and emotions people feel with paraphilia is important to know in order to diagnose and understand what is best for the individual. The overall goal of therapy with patients who suffer from paraphilia disorders is to make them change their behavior and challenge themselves in their ability to be able to control their thoughts in regards to the behavior.

Prevalence of the Disorders
A recent study was conducted to examine the prevalence and experience of paraphilia disorders and behaviors in a demographically representative sample of the general population. The sample size consisted of 1,040 individuals who were classified based on their gender, age, education, ethnicity, religion, and location of residency. The study revealed that almost half of the participants showed interest in one or more paraphilia categories, with approximately one-third of them having acted on their interests at least once. The prevalence of fetishism, dacryphilia, exhibitionism, and masochism was found to be 15.9%, with no significant difference in interest levels between males and females (Fisher, 2020).
Conclusion
As mentioned before, there are prescribed medications and therapy that are used as treatment for paraphilia disorders. However, the patients suffering from paraphilia disorders need to develop coping skills and train themselves to know how to control their behaviors and eagerness. Being able to understand the effects of their behavior and how these effects affect people can be a good way to help control these disorders and establish proper behaviors.
