Starting research means learning about your topic, getting an overview, checking for facts and dates of significant events, and finding names of noteworthy people. This is also when you want to keep track of search terms, including synonyms, and narrower and broader terms. Use your Portfolio Template to keep track (you should already have a copy of this). ABC-CLIO WORLD HISTORY is a great database for gaining an overview and review of major events in World History. Chose "World History: Modern Era" from the homepage. Search using the specific revolution or independence movement name (for example: "Mexican Revolution"). Look for "reference article" as your result.
