MS. LEWELLEN -
7th & 8th
MATH and SCIENCE
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year! Many adventures in learning are in store for us.
I' m Ms. Lewellen and this is my third year at San Onofre School, 38th year in FUESD, and 41st year in the field of education. I’ve taught pre-school through adult classes, so my experience is wide and varied. My teaching credentials include certification in K-12 Multiple Subjects, K-8 Foundational Sciences, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). In addition, I have a Master of Sciences in Educational Administration. The year 2011 afforded me the privilege of being the FUESD Teacher of the Year, and I was a San Diego County Teacher of the Year Finalist for 2013.
I can't wait to explore the world through Math and science with you. Our adventures this year will include topics in chemistry, physical sciences, life sciences, engineering and design, earth sciences and even "Space ... The Final Frontier!"
I have many passions, one of which is in the field of entertainment. When I’m not teaching, I’m a professional singer. I've worked in many capacities in entertainment including live performances on television, radio and live on-stage in theaters. These venues have been both local and far reaching nationally and internationally. I’ve even had the privilege of singing the National Anthem at a televised Major League Baseball Game here at Petco Park! Such Fun!
This year will be amazing! I look forward to learning about you, your passions and diverse skill sets! Who knows what we will be able to accomplish together.
Let’s have a great year!
MRS. BARTOLINI -
7th & 8th
ELA and SOCIAL STUDIES
Hello Students and Families! My name is Elizabeth Bartolini and I am very excited to be the 7th and 8th grade ELA and Social Studies Teacher at San Onofre School.
I am originally from Los Angeles, where I spent 6 years as a 6th grade history teacher. Since my husband is in the Navy, we moved to Central California where I spent 2 years working with high school students. Now, we are here in Camp Pendleton and I am looking forward to starting the school year with the 7th & 8th grade students and families at San Onofre School.
I love learning about students, and helping them make connections between their interests and what we’re learning in school. I also think it is important to find parallels between the past and the present, so I encourage students to ask about current events. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, traveling and reading. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
MRS. COOPER - 6th Grade
ELA and SOCIAL STUDIES
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Karen Cooper and I am thrilled to be teaching your 5th grade child at San Onofre School this year. I have been teaching at San Onofre for three years, and have fallen in love with the community and treasure working here at Camp Pendleton. I have been teaching for sixteen years and consider myself fortunate to be a teacher and work with your children, celebrating their successes and helping them persevere through the challenges.
I graduated from California State University Long Beach with a degree in English and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I later earned my Masters Degree in Education and taught for twelve years in Huntington Beach before moving to Oceanside.
My husband and I have recently become empty nesters as our children have both graduated college and ventured onto their own. Our daughter works for a biopharm company in San Diego and our son joined the Navy and is stationed in Pensacola, Florida. We are an active family and love living in southern California with the ocean and beautiful weather. Most days I relax by running and weekends are spent outdoors hiking, biking, paddle boarding, or enjoying other recreational activities.
I welcome you and your children to San Onofre with excitement and warmth as we embark on the new school year. I encourage you to reach out with any questions you may have and know I am here for you and your family as we navigate the 2024-2025 school year.

MATH and ACIENCE
Welcome to 20224-2025 at San Onofre Elementary School! I’m Ms. Phillips and this is my third year at San Onofre, thirteenth year in FUESD, and 33th year teaching. My credentials include certification in English, social sciences, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD). Additionally, I have a Master of Arts in Human Behavior, extensive training in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of English language arts / early adolescence.
This year we will study literature and language arts using the Common Core standards incorporating our brand new curriculum! McGraw-Hill StudySync is a completely comprehensive program available online and in separate unit booklets and includes novels. Vocabulary development, focused note taking, critical reading strategies, literature circles, and writing activities are just some of the lessons you can expect to see and hear about in our class. Students will continue to develop and improve as independent readers and writers.
My goal is to help students master the language arts standards of reading, writing, listening and speaking and feel prepared for the future. Coursework is rigorous and engaging and students will be rewarded with valuable knowledge and skills they will use every day.
I look forward to working with all of you for a productive and successful year.
My name is Nancy Wood and I am excited to be your child’s Physical Education teacher. This year I will be teaching Middle School and Elementary PE at San Onofre Elementary School. I will also be teaching Middle School and 4/5 th grade Physical Education at Fallbrook Virtual Academy. I have taught P.E. for eleven years and am approaching my 7th year at San Onofre. I was born and raised in San Clemente California. I grew up playing various sports. I have always loved being outside doing anything related to fitness. At San Clemente High School I competed in swimming, volleyball, basketball, x-country, and track. I earned a full athletic scholarship in X-Country and Track to Baylor University. I graduated from Baylor with a degree in Speech Pathology. I went on to attend Cal State Northridge and competed in track due to a medical redshirt at Baylor. I studied Kinesiology at Northridge so that I could pursue a career as a Physical Education teacher.
I knew in my heart that my dream was to work with young kids and encourage them to appreciate fitness and sports, develop a healthy lifestyle and work towards making good choices. I look forward to working with your child and watching them grow to their fullest potential.
Thank you for sharing your child with me this year!
