Corrective Consequences

1st time [Private Consult and Lose a Grizzly Point]: The first time students are off task or not following expectations I privately speak with them and explain that they need to follow the class rules, procedures and/or expectations. Moreover, the student will also lose 1 Grizzly point (Grizzly points are part of the school wide behavior incentive system). However, I also explain to the student that they may earn their Grizzly point back if they correct their unwanted behavior.

2nd time [Complete a Reflection Sheet]: If the unwanted behavior continues I then ask the student to please move to the Quiet Reflection area (located in the back of the class) and complete a Reflection Sheet. The Reflection Sheet asks students to acknowledge their behavior and explain why they are choosing to conduct themselves in a negative manner. The student may return to their seat once they have completed the Reflection Sheet. Finally, I have the student take the Reflection sheet home to share it with their parent(s) or guardian(s). The student must bring the Reflection Sheet back to school the next day with a parent/guardian signature. If the student does not bring back the Reflection Sheet I then call the parent(s) or guardian(s) to discuss the student’s behavior.

3rd time [Lunch Collaboration/Opportunity School]: If a student has already moved through steps 1 and 2 (lose of Grizzly Point and completed a Reflection Sheet) and the student’s behavior continues to escalate, I will assign them Lunch Collaboration (lunch detention) or Opportunity School (after school detention). At this point I will also call the parent(s) or guardian(s) and attempt to coordinate with them on a plan to help their student behave and stop the unwanted behavior.

Chronic misbehavior [Conference with Parents, Admin and Other Teachers]: If a student is exhibiting chronic behavior issues then I will set up a conference after school or before school. This conference will include the parent(s) or guardian(s), administration, the student, and the student’s other teachers. The goal is for all of us to collaborate and set up a plan to ensure this student stops the unwanted behavior(s).
