Prof. Robert Marks

Full Professor at the Department of Biotechnology Engineering and the Department-elect. His main area of work expertise is in diagnostics with a focus in Biosensors. His 155+ peer-reviewed papers are based on multidisciplinary projects which include devising new proprietary chemical materials for functionalization of bioreceptors to transducer systems, novel transducer configurations, and engineered bioreceptors. Most of the biosensing work falls in environmental and clinical applications tested on real-life samples from around the globe. In addition, we discover natural molecules that have quorum sensing inhibition properties to prevent biofilm formation. Several start-ups have been attempted with the last two, based on a patented electro-lateral flow immunosensor based in Singapore (www.biosensorix.com) and cannabis harvest detector in the USA (www.eclipsdx.com). Professor Marks teaches Biomedical ethics, business in biotechnology and biosensors.
