Research activity

Dr. Ivana Antonucci focused her research activity in the field of Molcular Genetics with particular attention to the study of stem cells from amniotic fluid . Dr. Ivana Antonucci has developed a novel single step culture protocol to differentiate human amniotic fluid stem cells (hAFSc) into osteogenic cells in order to achieve full differentiation within one month from withdrawal. In particular, she has shown that hAFSc maintain a good ability to proliferate on titanium surfaces even after their osteogenic differentiation, and that was maintained also when hAFSc were cultured on titanium screws. In addition, in collaboration with Professor Cesar V. Borlongan of the University of South Florida, and Professor David Hess of the Medical College of Augusta, Dr. Ivana Antonucci has obtained interesting results on undifferentiated AFSc transplantation in a rodent model of stroke, demonstrating a significant recovery of stroke-induced motor and neurological deficits The main current researches are focusing on epigenetic modifications during differentiation of hAFSc into male germ-like cells.
