Some History on Esports

Games used to be a childhood pass time, but the realm of video games has long passed its humble beginnings, and is moving into something greater.  On October 19, 1972, what is widely accepted as the first esports (Electronic Sports) competition was held in Stanford University. Participants were invited to compete in Spacewar, a combat game in space. 8 years later, in 1980 eSports really took off when Atari held a Space Invaders championship that attracted more than 10,000 players.

These old games ran on large cabinets that couldn't be moved easily, but as the technology improved, video games became more accessible to the average person.  By the 1990's most modern computers and consoles had 3D capabilities, starting a new wave of popularity.  A huge hit in the esports world was ID Software's newest shooter, Quake. Quake defined the first person genre as we know it, and was perfect for competitive multiplayer action.

The success and popularity of esports keeps growing to this day, with massive hits like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League,  and so many more. Esports always draws in massive crowds and extremely skilled players, all hoping to be the best. RGC Esports provides a COVID-19 safe environment for players to test their skills and rise to the top.
