About the Teacher

Hello! My name is Wes Homewood. I will be your student’s 5th grade teacher! I graduated from The University of North Florida where I majored in Deaf Education with a minor in ASL/Deaf Studies in 2019. While at UNF I studied abroad in Haiti where I taught at two different schools for the Deaf. That trip is what helped me find my passion for teaching. When we arrived back in Florida, I immediately changed my major from Athletic Training to Deaf Education. I started working at FSDB around the same time as the study abroad trip as a Recreational Staff and was in that role for 4 years. I have also coached wrestling and football here at FSDB. However, this is not my only tie to the school. When I was in 5th grade, I started attending FSDB as a student. I participated in wrestling, football, dance troupe, and a variety of other extracurricular activities and graduated in 2015. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Visual Disabilities Education at Florida State University.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my dog. I enjoy taking Winnie, my dog, on long walks through nature trails, to the beach, for a car ride, or just being home bodies where we snuggle on the couch and watch Netflix. I also enjoy hiking and camping. I travel to the mountains whenever I can. I enjoy road trips and taking adventures. I have been to 42 of the 50 states in the USA and have been abroad to Ireland, Italy, Greece, the United Kingdom, and Haiti. I really want to see the Northern Lights for my next trip abroad.

I love my family and am very close with my parents and older brother. My brother worked for Disney and now works in the corporate office for Darden Restaurants in Orlando. My father is retired after serving 25 years in the Navy. He worked here at FSDB for 5 years as a P.E. instructional assistant, track coach, football coach, and wrestling coach. In our free time, my father and I are renovating my house. My mother has worked in the mortgage industry for as long as I can remember. She loves her cats and has six cats in the house with three cats outside the house.

I am really looking forward to working with your child this year and watching them grow. I know it is going to be a great year!
