FRONTIER PATHWAYS
FRONTIER PATHWAYS
Frontier Pathways provide students with skills and real world experiences that prepare them for both the workforce and/or post-secondary education in the fields of:
Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Criminal Justice
Healthcare & Social Assistance Global Studies
Computer Science Business
Specialty courses allow students to take a deep dive into their chosen field. Students may also elect to participate in a faculty-sponsored independent study that deepens their understanding of a specific aspect of their field. Industry experts are invited into all classes to share their knowledge and advice with students. Immersive field trips offer opportunities for students to see how their classroom experience applies to the real world. Resume building internships also offer students the opportunity to gain experience with industry-leading companies.
Students who participate in a pathway will, upon completion, have a deeper understanding of a given field that will inform their future career and educational pursuits. Students who complete a pathway will receive a special designation on their high school diploma and will have the honor of wearing a special designation cord at graduation.
Frontier Pathways prepare students to:
Enter the workforce directly or further their education in their chosen field.
Successfully apply for jobs by learning valuable skills such as resume writing, interviewing and job search methods.
And in some cases, earn industry-recognized credentials (IRCs) such as CPR/First Aid, Osha 10 General Safety, Stop the Bleed and others.
Entrance Requirements
All students in grade 10 are eligible to formally enroll in a Frontier Pathway, though many of the course electives are open to students in grade 9. Students in grade 11 may enroll as long as there is room in their schedule to accommodate the courses and internship or independent study that are required for Frontier Pathways program completion.
Frontier Pathways Coursework
Students in Frontier Pathways complete coursework that satisfies the state requirement for Masscore and receive a Frontier diploma. In addition to taking courses that satisfy departmental requirements, students take 10 credits of technical courses and 10 credits of advanced courses. Some advanced coursework also satisfies departmental requirements. Guidance counselors can be consulted regarding courses that qualify as both a pathways and departmental requirement.
