Homework
On Monday through Thursday each week, students will usually have math homework and they are expected to read any text of their choice for 20 minutes. Also, there is a place in their homework folder for them to respond to their reading.
Please feel free to use any of the suggestions below for optional practice or enrichment!
After Reading:
Write a summary of what you’ve read
Write about the theme, character traits or a prediction you’re hatching
Write the story from the perspective of another character
Draw, paint or sketch an important scene
Keep a diary pretending you are the main character
Math:
Practice your facts
Use one of the suggestions on the Math tab on this site
Vocabulary:
Try out these new words: fortunate, simplify, frequent, furious, compelling
Choose a word that is new to you and write it in a sentence that anyone could figure out its meaning from
Fold your paper into 4 squares. Write the meaning in one square, draw a picture in another, use it in a sentence in another, write a synonym and/or antonym in the last
Writing:
Picture a favorite place in your mind and describe why it’s your happy place
Start and keep a diary
Write a letter to a friend or family member
Write a fiction story, a personal narrative, fan fiction, fantasy story, or non fiction piece
Enrichment:
Read the Wonder of the Day on Wonderopolis and do the activities
Take a tour of the Museum of Natural History

Open a window on the world and write your thoughts with Window Swap
Write a poem with 10 lines. The first line has one syllable, the second line has two and so on up to 10 syllables in 10 lines. Or try it in reverse starting at 10 syllables and working down.
