Morning Meeting is how we start our day together as a class community. It includes a greeting, sharing time, a fun activity, and a morning message. This helps us build friendships, practice communication skills, and get ready for a great day of learning!
Our second grade ELA program helps students grow as both readers and writers. Through engaging units, they explore characters, dive into nonfiction, and learn to form opinions and ideas from what they read. In writing, they create personal narratives, expert books, fiction stories, and even research projects. We also build strong foundational skills with daily phonics and handwriting practice. Each unit is designed to spark curiosity and develop confident, thoughtful communicators.
WIN Time is a special part of our day where students get exactly what they need to grow as learners. During this time, they may work with different teachers for reading support, math support, ESL, or stay in the classroom for targeted instruction. It’s all about helping each student succeed at their own pace and level.
Students enjoy a break in their day with lunch in the cafeteria and recess outside (weather permitting). During this time, they are supervised by our dedicated lunch and recess aides, not the classroom teachers. If any concerns or issues arise during lunch or recess, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can help support your child.

Our second grade math program uses Bridges in Mathematics, a hands‑on curriculum that builds deep understanding, fluency, and flexible problem solving through whole‑class discussions, small groups, and independent activities.
A key part of our daily routine is Number Corner, a 15–20 minute calendar-based lesson where students add a new day’s marker and explore patterns, place value, measurement, money, time, shapes, and arrays. During Number Corner, learners practice essential skills including comparing numbers to 1,000, skip counting, and mental strategies. These skills are practices through games, visual models, and discussions
Together, Bridges units and Number Corner ensure students build confidence and flexibility in math thinking every day.

In science, students explore big ideas through hands-on units in physical science, earth science, life science, and STEM. They investigate, experiment, and solve problems like real scientists and engineers. In social studies, students learn about meeting needs and wants, how our environment and communities change over time, and the power of innovation. These engaging lessons help students connect to the world around them and become thoughtful, informed citizens.

At the end of the day, students are dismissed based on their regular mode of transportation (bus, parent pick-up, aftercare, etc.). If there is a change in your child’s usual dismissal plan, please contact the main office directly—not just the classroom teacher—as we may not see emails in time. This helps ensure a smooth and safe dismissal for everyone.
