When can I come to the library? During tutorial is the best time for students to visit the LMC. Quick trips to return or borrow books can be made during homeroom, and you can also get a pass from your teacher if you need to finish a project for his/her class.
Do I need a library pass? Yes, all students need a pass to come to the library.
Do I need to sign in? Yes. There is a Chromebook sign-in station when you enter the media center.
What kind of things can I do in the LMC? Browse and borrow books, finish assignments, get help with your assignments, use computers, printers, read, and work in a quiet, comfortable environment.
How many library materials can I borrow at a time? Usually two items per student, but exceptions may be made for special projects or for the avid reader.
How long may I borrow these library materials for? The loan period is for two weeks, but most items can be renewed.
What happens if my items are overdue? Library materials are not considered overdue until week three. You will receive an overdue notice during homeroom at that time. For items that are four weeks late, students will be asked to stop in and see Mrs. Handren and parents may be contacted. After six weeks, library privileges may be revoked until the materials are returned.
Why does it matter that we return library materials on time? It’s the borrower’s responsibility to return materials on time so that others may use them. We have a small but popular collection at the JP Case Library Media Center, so we must be courteous about our returns so that others can use them.
What is a Playaway? A Playaway is a handheld audiobook device. It looks very similar to an iPod.
Who can check out a Playaway? Any student in good standing may check out a Playaway. There is a small form that students will be asked to fill out when checking out a Playaway device. It ensures that the student is receiving the device in good working condition upon check out, as well as if they would like borrow headphones to go along with the device.
What else should I know about using a Playaway? They are a great way to read when you're on the go (especially for long car rides). They are also great to listen to as you read along with the book. Playaways are more costly to replace than books (some popular titles cost up to $90.00) so be sure to keep them in a safe spot when not in use.
Who can use a library computer? Any student in good standing may use a computer in the LMC.
Must I ask a member of the LMC staff before using a computer? Yes. Before you log onto a LMC computer, you must let us know what you'll be working on.
What do I do when I’m done working on a LMC computer? Please log off your computer and be sure to sign out on one of the Chromebook station at the front of the Media Center. We will sign your pass to return to class before you leave.
