MEET MR. CAHILL...

email ID: william.cahill

I am so excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year with Team 7-3! This will be my 19th year working in the Flemington-Raritan School District, where I was hired following my undergraduate studies at The College of New Jersey. At TCNJ, I studied Biology with a focus on earning my teaching certification.

In 2005, I began my first year teaching 8th Grade Science at RFMS before moving to JP Case that very same year. I was a part of Team 8-2 until 2009. During this time, I also began working toward a second degree from The College of New Jersey in Educational Leadership. Upon attaining my M.Ed., I was thrilled to be hired as the 7th Grade Vice-Principal at JP Case Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year. The following year, I transitioned to an Elementary Vice-Principal role at Barley Sheaf, but I came to realize my true love of working with children in the science classroom and seeing how kids react when they are doing science in the lab. I was fortunate to have the ability to return to the classroom at JP Case as a Student Support Teacher during the 2010-2011 school year before joining the 7th Grade Science Department in September 2011. Last school year, I also earned my Supervisor Certificate after completing one last Advanced Curriculum course at The College.

Throughout my time in the district, I have also worked with students and peers outside of the classroom to benefit the JP Case community. I advised the JP Case Student Council for four years, and I have participated in workshops/professional development around the country to implement programs such as Responsive Design for the Middle School Student and Key Environmental Issues in my classroom. I was able to use what I learned in these programs while advising the JP Case Environmental Club. As New Jersey began the process of adopting new learning standards in science, I was fortunate enough to collaborate with teachers from 19 other school districts at Rider University. During both the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years, our primary focus was the development of lessons that aligned with the newly adopted state science standards, the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards), and the development of authentic classroom assessments that allowed us to determine if our students were meeting the expectations set forth in the standards. During the 2022-2023 school year, I was awarded an NJ STEM Pathways Innovation Fellowship with two of my colleagues. We will continue our work during the second year of the Fellowship this school year.

During the 2007-2008 school year, I was honored to receive the New Jersey Governors Teacher of the Year Award for JP Case Middle School. This was truly a highlight of my career, as I was only in my third year of teaching!

Many of the accomplishments I have achieved in my professional life are attributed to the academic and extra-curricular experiences I had while attending TCNJ. As an undergraduate, I was an active member of an environmental organization called Water Watch and served as the Education Chair of the Group. For three years, I also held several positions in the Students Affairs Division of The College. I worked as an Office Assistant in the Office of Residence Life and in the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs. One of my favorite positions on campus, though, was serving as Student Manager in Residence for one of the most central residence halls on The College’s campus.

TCNJ became a "second home" for me, and I truly wanted to be a part of the campus community after graduation. It was only fitting that in 2006, I was brought on the Executive Board of The College of New Jersey Alumni Association. The 2014-2015 academic year marked my ninth (and final) year on the Board in the role of Immediate Past President. From 2010-2013, I was honored to represent over 68,000 alumni while serving as the President of the Alumni Association. Simply put, I "Bleed Blue and Gold" (TCNJ's colors). I was also fortunate to hold the positions of Homecoming/Reunion Chairperson and Secretary on the Executive Committee before serving as President.

Currently, I live in Mercer County, one town over from where I grew up. Much of my time outside of school is spent with my close family and friends. They inspire me and often indulge me in one of my favorite passions, traveling. I had the great opportunity to travel to Norway just before all travel ceased during the Pandemic! Other favorite trips have been cruising the Mediterranean, laying on the beach in Turks and Caicos, and spending two weeks in Mallorca, Spain, during my graduate program. One day I would love to visit Fiji and Australia.
