Introduction to Painting - CARLSON
Description of Class
This course will explore various historical painting styles. We will focus on the following painting subjects, portrait, still life, landscape and nonobjective. We will use the following mediums in class, watercolor, acrylic, oil and mixed media. We will cover the following historic styles in art, Op Art, Cubism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Pop Art.
Notes/Assignments
We have divided the grading into two categories. Projects are final paintings and are worth 80% of the student's total grade. The studies/research grades come from introductory studies students complete in preparation for a painting. The research grades are based on students writings in class. The studies/research grades are worth 20% of the student's total grade.
Expectations
Students are expected to treat supplies with care and respect. Classroom space used during class must be cleaned upon departing. Students must use Studio Time provided to complete paintings. Student may take home paintings to work, but the majority of the painting must be completed during class time.
Supply List
Students will receive an introductory set of brushes and a pallet. In addition, students will be provided with surfaces and paint for their assignments.
