The Texas Education Agency (TEA) generally prohibits the use of personal electronic devices, including smartwatches and smart glasses, during the STAAR test to maintain test security and integrity. Districts must implement procedures to prevent students from using these devices and ensure that any approved technology, including accessibility features, follows strict security guidelines to prevent data breaches or prohibited communication. Any device that could compromise the test's validity or security is not permitted, and districts need to have policies to address these situations.
Wearable technology devices must be APPROVED before use during the STAAR test can occur. If your student has a wearable technology device that is a MEDICAL NECESSITY, you should notify the Campus Testing Coordinator at bemrickgris@friscoisd.org. If the technology is not APPROVED before use on the STAAR exams, student tests could be invalidated due to the potential for the technology to provide an unfair advantage and/or ability to compromise test security.
