Notification of New Law Regarding Asthma Diagnosis and Parent Approval
Frisco ISD Parents,
Based upon the requirements of a new law, under HB 2243, FISD has adopted a policy regarding the administration of prescription asthma medication by a school nurse.
The law requires that the school nurse may only administer prescription asthma medicine if:
The timing of the new law made us unable to get it into PowerSchool registration as part of the yearly registration process.
For this reason, FISD Health Services is providing a link to the form, “2019-2020 Permission to Administer Asthma Medication,” that must be completed by the parent/guardian in order for the campus nurse to administer asthma medication to the student. If the form is not completed, the school nurse will call 911 in the event that the student has an asthma emergency, instead of administering the asthma medication.
If your student HAS NOT been diagnosed with asthma, please disregard this noitice.
If your student HAS been medically diagnosed with asthma and you want the school nurse to administer asthma medication, please CLICK HERE to complete the required permission form for each of your students with the medical diagnosis of asthma. Once you have completed the form for each student, the record will automatically be sent to Health Services and the campus nurse as approval to administer the medication to the indicated student.
