In a nutshell, I am here to help students, parents, teachers and administrators. My goal is to help students so that they can achieve their greatest academic success.
I perform a number of duties in order to achieve my goal. My direct interaction with students occurs in classroom guidance lessons, small group lessons, and meeting with a student on an individual basis.
Every three weeks, I see each classroom of students. I present guidance lessons based on our monthly character traits (Character Lab) and student's needs. (See Below) Guidance lessons are designed to help students feel connected in the classroom, develop social-emotional skills, and develop important life skills. Additionally, teachers might request that I talk with a class to help with a special issue and I am always happy to do so.
Small groups, and sometimes, lunch bunch groups are another way that I interact with kids. We meet to discuss a topic of interest to that group. We have a great time! You will receive more information on those groups as the year starts!
I do meet individually with students to help them through an issue or situation. It is important to keep in mind that school counselors do not provide therapy. Remember that my goal is to help students with academic success and issues that could interfere with that classroom success. If your child is experiencing an issue that affects them outside of school, I have a variety of resources that may help!
