My name is Aubrey Wattellier. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University. Right after college I worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Kiribati. I spent two years training teachers on the island of Onotoa. I lived in a stick hut with a thatch roof and my island had no electricity, phones, or running water. It was quite an adventure and definitely a pivotal experience.
This will be my 21st year teaching. While I am from here, I lived and taught in the Bay Area for six years before moving back to Texas. My husband, Jeremie, and I have two children, Gemma (8) and Raleigh (6). I like to bake, especially cupcakes, though teaching and my family take up most of my time. I have been an avid reader for my entire life and love instilling that love of literature in my students. This year we will have fun and learn so much!
Hi! My name is Perla Velasco. I am originally from Houston, TX where I also graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor's in Marketing and Management. I never worked in my field of study however and instead obtained my Alternative Teaching Certificate and went straight into teaching. That was my true calling. 🙂 I taught primarily 5th grade (a couple 6th grade years sprinkled in there), all content areas, for 10 years. I then had children of my own and decided to stay home with them.
I am married and have two children...1 boy and 1 girl. When my youngest started kinder, I decided to slowly, but surely, start working again and subbed at Hosp for 3 years. I loved getting to know all of the students and staff. Pre-K became one of my favorite grades to teach though, so here I am! Haha!
During my free time, I love spending time with my family. Whether that's going out for a bike ride, playing a board game, watching a movie together...I enjoy it. I also love watching my kids play soccer every weekend... they are fun to watch! I love to read, watch Dancing With the Stars when in season, getting together with my mom friends and kids, and just being outdoors on a beautiful day!
Cheers to a great year!
