20th Annual Sexual Assault and Stalking Symposium


Because of our concern for the safety of our colleagues due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we will not be holding the 20th Annual Sexual Assault and Stalking Symposium (or the Pre-Symposium sessions on March 31) this year. Our staff will be working over the next week or so to arrange registration fee refunds. Once a refund is issued, it can take up to 5 business days to show in your account, depending on the bank or credit card company.

If you made an individual lodging reservation and do not receive an email by Tuesday from Stonewall Resort cancelling it, please contact them (304-269-7400 is the main number there).

The 2021 Symposium will be March 25, 2021 with a ‘pre-conference’ training on the 24th – with the topics to be announced!

Sexual Assault Awareness Month will begin in WV with the 20th Annual Sexual Assault and Stalking Symposium! This one-day training provides an opportunity to learn more about providing a trauma-informed response in sexual assault cases, as well as emerging issues related to sexual violence.

The Symposium is essential for law enforcement, campus security, victim advocates, SANEs, medical personnel, prosecutors, SART members, college campus staff*, social workers, counselors, disability service providers and corrections staff.

*Please be advised, this training is limited to professionals currently working in the field. Student registrations will not be accepted.

IMPORTANT- Effective this year, FRIS will no longer offer scholarships for the Symposium.

This year we are also offering two Pre-Symposium sessions on March 31, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.!

1. Applying What We Know about Trauma to Investigative Strategies is for active law enforcement only. In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of a trauma-informed approach can improve interview and investigations.

2. Healthy Masculinity and the Men and Boys in Our Communities is designed specifically for College campuses, Prevention Education Specialists, and other professionals who provide sexual violence prevention programming, particularly with adolescent males in the community. This training will present Men Can Stop Rape’s approach to healthy masculinity and to comprehensively engaging men in primary prevention through 8 core steps.
