Friends of Copper Falls State Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing volunteer services and financial support for the services at Copper Falls.
The Friends is organized under Chapter 181 of Wisconsin Statutes for charitable, educational, scientific, and conservation purposes to benefit Copper Falls State Park. The Friends are further organized to do the following:
Provide volunteer services for park projects, trail maintenance, events, and activities.
Provide financial and in-kind support for venues and trails, construction projects, and activities.
Support, provide, and encourage visitor participation in interpretive, educational, and nature-based activities.
Pursue any commercial, financial, or real estate transaction that advances the Friends Strategic Plan,
Facilitate the acquisition of property for conservation purposes.
Hold title to real or personal property and incur debt for conservation acquisitions.
Maintain its charitable, non-profit status under IRS Code 501(c)(3) and its federal tax exemption under Section 501(a) of the IRS Code.
Throughout the year Friends hosts events and activities for park visitors. Friends provides financial support for programs and projects that enhance the visitors' park experiences. Volunteers help park staff maintain hiking, ski, snowshoe, and bike trails.
Through fundraising and securing grants, Friends has made significant contributions to the park. For examples, Friends has done the following:
Built and furnished the reservable pavilion.
Purchased a 40 acre privately owned parcel that is within the park's boundaries for the purpose of donating the parcel to the park.
Donated three thousand dollars toward the purchase of land expanding the park's footprint adjacent to Loon Lake.
Bought equipment (snowmobile and wood splitter) used for maintaining the park's trails.
Supported the development of a new trail.
Subsidized the park's naturalist program.
Sponsored educational programs and entertainment for park visitors.
