Camp Neipsic was originally purchased by the leaders of Boy Scout Troop 1 of East Hartford in 1941. The majority of the $1,100 used to purchase the nearly 30 acre property was raised through newspaper collection (recycling) drives.
In 1962, the State of Connecticut took approximately 10 acres for the Route 2 highway construction project. This left Camp Neipsic with the remaining 18 acres it is known as today.
In 2008, Camp Neipsic formally became open space available to the public for passive recreation.
In 2014, Friends of Camp Neipsic, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was established. Friends of Camp Neipsic, Inc. was formed to actively manage and maintain Camp Neipsic ensuring its use as a youth camp indefinitely.
In 2015, ownership of Camp Neipsic was officially transferred to Friends of Camp Neipsic, Inc.
Camp Neipsic has served thousands of local youth by providing a place for outdoor education and recreation.
